Dürsteler House Local Museum

In addition to the collections and the fascinating temporary exhibitions, the house with its facade paintings and the decorated rafters demonstrates how people used to live in the past.

The house stands modestly on Grüningerstrasse in Unterottikon – as if hiding behind an old factory building with bell towers. However, there is no reason to hide for this neat wooden house. The steep half-timbered gable, the dazzling row of windows with the shutters, the wall paintings and the remarkable interior decoration all bear witness to the fact that the building was once in wealthy hands. The name of the house is a reminder of Johannes Dürsteler from Ottikon, the founder of the former IDEWE textile factory in Wetzikon. As of 1870, the house was owned by the company during 100 years and became a boarding house to the factory nearby.

Birthdays and other celebrations as well as meetings are best held in a cosy setting – this is perfectly possible at the Dürstelerhaus.
